We have run three CBE courses with LLT over the last 9 years. They deliver a really motivational course and the students we fund leave inspired and confident to teach. LLT keep the course materials up to date and ensure that they remain evidence based and current.

I would like to thank you and your team on behalf of all the participants of the CBE/OEP training programme. Your team delivered a very successful and well received training course. It was great to note how serious all the candidates took the training by the amount of midnight oil burnt to complete all the course work required.

Later Life Training has made such a difference. Doing chairbased exercises and now Otago has changed my life. The change in the older people I work with has inspired me as a social care worker. Seeing older people gaining confidence is so humbling. I love my job so much more now.

This is great – the general feedback has been brilliant our end. I must comment from the hour I spent with you – we need all staff to undergo your training. You deliver the message in a very powerful way and from your feedback in this e-mail – you have planted so many seeds the flowers will be blooming by mid summer. Let’s hope that we can continue and really make a difference.

Dementia

An excellent  course for those starting out in the world of physical activity for people living with dementia. A good mix of theory and practical guidance with additional supportive resources. Enthusiastically delivered and very well supported after the course itself with access to additional research and links too. The course has provided staff in Kirklees with the knowledge and skills to support the development of an exercise referral programme specifically for people living with dementia. It has also guided us to develop alliances and become a partner of the Kirklees Dementia Action Alliance supporting others to develop a wide range of activity opportunities across the Borough.

I have received strongly positive feedback from my patients who have completed their stroke rehabilitation classes. I now actively encourage as many patients as possible to participate in this evidence based 12 week exercise programme.

Really enjoyed the first 2 days of the course they were very informative and the practical element was very useful.

I have found this course a bit hard for me, I am not academic but usually manage in the end. At the start I really felt I lost my confidence in what I knew I was very good at. Now however I have felt I have gained so much. My confidence has returned and I feel a much better exercise after stroke instructor. Tailoring  is so much easier when you know more about the effects of the condition.

I would like to thank the LLT Trainers. I have gone from knowing literally nothing about Stroke and its effects to now having the knowledge and confidence to deliver an exercise class designed to help people living with Stroke to lead a more active, healthy lifestyle. We in Shetland are committed to helping the full range of older people enjoy an active life

It has been wonderful to be able to use some of the training LLT have given us to reach out to the more vulnerable and harder to reach clients in our community. The training has certainly enabled and helped give us the confidence to assist this group of clients. Long may it continue.

FF MOT

Fitness, physical activity and health professionals need bespoke training to cope with the demands of an ageing population that is living longer. Later Life Training offers a range of courses that I strongly recommend to my students. They have commented positively on the quality of resources they receive and speak highly of the knowledgeable and approachable facilitators. After completing the reasonably priced training, they feel confident in putting the skills and knowledge they have learnt into practice. ‘The Functional Fitness MOT is an absolute must’.

FF MOT

Our past use of the Functional Fitness Training and Programme in Rochdale has enabled us gain further funding from the CCG to train 15 extra volunteers and staff to be able to deliver the Functional Fitness MOT’s. It has enabled us to run 8 Functional Fitness MOT assessments and follow up 10 week courses across the borough this year, attracting 130 older adults and people with mobility, balance and functional ability issues.

We have then forwarded 75% of these participants into new weekly exercise sessions suitable for their abilities, and we have followed them with further MOT assessments at different times during the year and seen improvements in their functional ability.

We have now reached capacity in the 8 weekly Functional exercise weekly sessions we run, and have waiting lists for the next set of Functional Fitness Assessments and courses, with referrals coming in through GP Referral scheme, pulmonary rehabilitation, neurophysio rehabilitation, falls prevention and various other organisations, a much needed gap in provision has been plugged by the use of Functional Fitness training in Rochdale!

Doing the FF MOT course has allowed me to teach this to my HND Fitness, health and exercise students as part of the curriculum. As part of their SQA Higher National Diploma module, Applied fitness testing for special population groups, the students have selected and applied some of the tests when working with older adults in care homes. This has been part of a 12 week physical activity project in which both care home residents and students benefited from the experience.

Lisa Dods, Sport and Fitness Lecturer, Perth College UHI, Scotland
FF MOT

The recent Functional MOT training was greatly received by the participating staff. They have continued to feedback that they have gained so much confidence from the training and are now thinking much more about how functional deficits are related to the persons overall health and well being. They are also thinking much more about promoting physical activity with the people they support and are much more confident in how they deliver exercise. Our staff work with some of the most vulnerable people in our communities and I am delighted that they now are armed with these additional knowledge and skills. This means that older people across Lanarkshire are receiving more effective person-centred interventions.

I would highly recommend your courses and I am scoping further funding opportunities to be able to use your expertise again in the future.

I have been training people for over 30 years I have been training my self since I was 12. I learnt a long time ago that one never knows it all. Also we can become sloppy over time with our technique. The course informed me to concentrate on the client as they performed the exercise. So that their efforts would be more effective and therefore more rewarding. I would like to praise the tutor and the female examiner for their sensitivity and understanding in dealing with experienced trainers who can at times think they know it all.

As a physiotherapist, I felt I already knew the OEP

It has already given me confidence to work much more effectively with the people I do sessions with. I have also thought about my own ageing process and am aware that I should be performing some of the exercises myself.  Really enjoyed how the tutors share their knowledge and experience and the delivery of the course

PSI

Since qualifying as a PSI in May 2004 I have set up 4 classes working for Selby and York Primary Care Trust. These classes run alongside my job as a community nurse and EXTEND teacher. I am exercising with up to 60 people per week. Reassessments show good results. Balance, leg strength, confidence in walking as well as the socialising opportunity. I have waiting lists for all classes and enough people in one area to start another class.

Angie Hampton, Exercise Instructor

The tutors (Vicky and Simon) knowledge was comprehensive and their enthusiasm infectious. Good flexibility in the teaching approach to individuals and group needs

I loved the course, and such a privilege  to have you teach on the 1st weekend!  PSI has given me some amazing tools to use in my current over 50’s and Over 65’s classes (especially the over 65’s).  I am hoping that I can enthuse others to gently step out of their comfort zones.

Charlotte Fairs, Exercise Instructor, PSI

I would also like to take this opportunity to express how impressed I have been with the course. The information was organised and implemented to schedule. The course content was comprehensive. All the tutors and assessors were excellent in their delivery, very approachable and very supportive. Dawns enthusiasm is infectious and Bex has an inspired method of teaching which is very motivating and made the course really enjoyable. I look forward to attending another course delivered by Later Life.

Involving older people in motivating other older
people is so important but I was not sure where to start.  I learnt lots on this course and the
resources were excellent!

A must for those who wish to develop volunteering activity for older people in physical activity. A course very well organised and enthusiastically delivered which gave much information but also practical guidance. Great  resources too ! In Kirklees, following the training , we are now benefitting from the support of 75 “physical activity motivators” ( senior peer mentors!) who support us on a weekly basis on our exercise referral programme ….and have even had to develop a waiting list for training ! Their “someone like me” approach has supported many patients on the scheme and has provided motivation and support resulting in sustained activity participation. The experience and wisdom they bring totally complements the technical skills of the exercise professional and adds to the quality experience of the programme. This course is definitely a “best buy” for physical activity!!!
