CPD days have been developed for Qualified PSI Instructors. Five different CPD Days are potentially available. If you are interested, please contact us.

The following Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Days are open to anyone who has Qualified on the “EXERCISE FOR THE PREVENTION OF FALLS & INJURIES IN FRAILER OLDER PEOPLE” Training Course and for other interested professionals (as covered below under CPD Day headings).
CPD Options
There are five types of CPD day that you could attend. The five options are laid out below. All CPD options are one day courses, which run from 9.00am to 4.30pm. Candidates will be supplied relevant resources.

CPD 1: Postural Stability Instructor (PSI) Update – The Evidence (Level 4/Postgraduate Level)
This day will provide PSI’s with an update on new evidence behind both exercise- only and multi-factorial interventions to reduce falls and on more advanced theory on movement control. There will also be a practice update; a chance to check your delivery skills, some new exercises, progressions to circuits, compensatory stepping and ball work; Tutors: Sheena Gawler and Dr Dawn Skelton.

If you have not delivered PSI classes for some time and wish a more intensive practical update, we are now offering the chance to attend a half day (day 5 of a course) where you will see a while class in action and have a chance to revise practical with other students. For further information on this (which does not carry REPS points) click here.

This day is for Qualified PSIs only. 

This one day CPD course carries 7 REPS points.

CPD 2: Tai Chi CPD Days for PSI's (Multi Level)
This day will update PSI’s on the evidence behind Tai Chi for health improvement and maintenance of balance. Progression of the moves taught on the course plus new Tai Chi moves that can be incorporated into PSI sessions, will be practised in individual and group formats. There will be in depth discussion about the core philosophy behind Tai Chi. Tutor: Jane Ward.

Developed for PSIs. Also appropriate for all health and exercise professionals already working with older people;

•  Exercise/Movement and Dance Teachers/Instructors

•  Sports Coaches/Physical Education Teachers working with older people

•  Physiotherapists

•  Physiotherapy students

•  Occupational therapists

•  Physiotherapy Assistants, including Rehabilitation Assistants (supervised by Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists)

•  Chairbased Exercise leaders and Otago Exercise leaders

This one day CPD course does not carry REPS points.

CPD 3: Physiotherapy Approaches to Falls Prevention (Level 4/Postgraduate Level) 
(NB. this CPD day is open only to Physiotherapists and Physiotherapy assistants who hold the PSI qualification). This day is led by an eminent Physiotherapist in Falls prevention. It will provide an update on the assessment of falls across Europe and make recommendations for the selection and implementation of assessment tools for a range of clinical settings. It will also discuss and demonstrate the therapy led guidelines for tailoring the OTAGO and FaME exercise programmes and the protocols and considerations involved in setting up a Falls Exercise Service. Developed for Physiotherapists specialising in the prevention and management of falls in frailer older people. Also appropriate for;

•  All Physiotherapists of all specialities

•  Physiotherapy students

•  Occupational Therapists

•  Physiotherapy Assistants, including Rehabilitation Assistants and Technical Instructors (supervised by Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists)

This one day CPD course does not carry REPS points.

CPD 4: Osteoporosis CPD Day for PSI’s (Level 4/Postgraduate Level)
This day will update PSI’s on the new evidence on exercise and bone health and falls prevention. It will cover both theory and practice, including the exercises, specialist teaching skills and therapy led guidelines for tailoring the FaME programme for those with diagnosed Osteoporosis and Osteopenia. Developed in partnership with the University of Derby and the NOS. Tutor: Susie Dinan.

Developed for Physiotherapists specialising in the prevention and management of Osteoporosis and Falls & Fractures. Also appropriate for;

•  All Physiotherapists

•  Occupational Therapists

•  Physiotherapy Assistants, including Rehabilitation Assistants (supervised by Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists)

•  Pilates Instructors & all level 2 & 3 Exercise Instructors

This one day CPD course carries 7 REPS points.

CPD 5: Motivation and Adherence CPD Day for PSI’s (Multi Level)
This day will update PSI’s on the perceptions and barriers that older people have to taking part in physical activity and exercise. It will evaluate the new evidence behind fear of falling and the uptake and adherence to falls prevention interventions. It will explore strategies for presenting information to participants to increase uptake, enjoyment and confidence. Tutor: Bob Laventure.

Developed for PSIs. Also appropriate for all health/health promotion and exercise professionals;

•  Social Care professionals

•  Exercise/Movement and Dance Teachers/Exercise Instructors

This one day CPD course carries 7 REPS points.

REGISTER OF EXERCISE PROFESSIONALS
The Register of Exercise Professionals is pleased to confirm that the training programme entitled Postural Stability Instructor Update has been accepted for recognition as Endorsed Training for CPD within the framework of the Register of Exercise Professionals. The course can be used by members of the Register as continuing professional development to provide evidence to maintain their position on the Register.

The three CPD courses (CPD1, 4 and 5) have been allocated a CPD Credit value of 7 points.
